Clearing information for parents, guardians and carers

If your child is thinking about joining university through Clearing, this guide will help you support them through the process.

Clearing is how universities and colleges fill any places they still have on their courses. Clearing is for students who missed or exceeded their predicted grades, have changed their plans or haven’t applied yet. Although it can seem fast-paced and last minute, try not to worry. Lots of students get a university place through Clearing every year. They go on to have an amazing university experience, make lifelong friends and graduate with good quality degrees.

Get prepared for results day

This year's results day will be on Thursday, 15 August 2024. Although it can be a little nerve-wracking, don't worry, there are lots of things you can do ahead of time to ensure you are prepared.

Make a Clearing shortlist of the courses your child is interested in. This could be a different course from their original choice or a university that wasn’t on their main UCAS application. Head to our course finder page to browse our Clearing courses and check the course content and our entry requirements.

Want to learn more about 香港六合论坛 and our courses? We're hosting campus tours, so why not come and see us? Our student ambassadors will show you around and answer all your questions. And if you can't visit in person, just head over to our student chat page and ask our students, staff and academic.

Already got all the results? We accept Clearing applications from students who already have all of their qualifications, including GCSEs.

On results day

Things can move rapidly on results day and emotions can run high. Once students have their results, they should log into their  to see the status of their offers. It’s important that they don’t just assume they’ve automatically lost their place if they haven’t achieved all conditions of their firm or insurance offer.

If your child doesn't get a place on either their firm or insurance choice, they can start going through the shortlist of their preferred courses. On results day and the following few days, we have extended open hours so they can call us from early morning until the evening, or apply online. When they call us they will need to have their UCAS personal ID, email address, exam results and the course(s) they want to apply for. Please note that we will need to speak to the applicant directly and can’t discuss a student’s application with anyone else. Though it may be a good idea for a family member to help students make calls or fill out the online application form.

Getting started at uni

Once they’ve made a decision and the offer is confirmed, sit back and celebrate. The university will give you all the information you need. They can book their campus accommodation, plan what they need to take with them, find out about , , and check what’s going on in Welcome Week. There’s a brand new working world out there looking for fresh talent. Let’s get them ready for it.
